Senator Dino Melaye has shared a photo of himself at the National Youth Service Corps Kaduna camp in a bid to reaffirm the authenticity of his Bachelor’s degree in Geography.

Amid the raging controversy over his graduate status, Melaye took to his Twitter handle to share a photo of himself at the NYSC gold camp in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

“ABU 99 set at NYSC camp in KD. Me in blue shorts,” Melaye wrote along with the photo.

Despite Melaye’s insistence that he was admitted into the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, headed the student union government in his days at the citadel of learning, graduated successfully, the Senate opted to probe the claims.

Shanghai Shenhua’s Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins as through his Obafemi Martins Foundation (OMF) donated over 5,000 wheelchairs and crutches to disabled people at an event held at the National Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday, March 21.

The wheelchairs and crutches, valued at tens of millions of naira, will be given to physically challenged non-athletes in Surulere, Orile Iganmu, Lagos Island and Yaba.

In his address, Martins’ representative Deji Olusesan said the core of the foundation is to reach out to the less privileged in the society rather than wait for the government to do everything.

”Giving back to the community is our slogan and that is the essence of this presentation,” said Olusesan.

”Donating to people with disabilities is a section of what we have been doing because we have carried out several charity works and more are in progress.

”Obafemi Martins is a giver and he has vowed to continue doing this till he is tired because he wants to see everyone happy.’’

Nigerians residing in South Africa have been urged to return to Nigeria in light of the Xenophobic attacks against them.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Mrs Rita Orji made the plea on Wednesday, March 22 after five Nigerians were attacked barely 48hours after the Nigerian delegation arrived from South Africa for peace talks.

Orji declared in a press briefing that “if they must continue killing us despite our efforts to make peace then they should just come back home for good.

She said:”It is not to go and massage the ego of South Africans or their envoy, the truth of the matter is that there is a gang up against Nigerians in South Africa, I made it clear that the manner the reoccurrence of xenophobic attack is coming in 2015, 2016 and 2017, that time shall come when it will not take 6 months before it reoccurs because previous ones nobody has been sentenced to death, no remedy has been given to those that were attacked, those their businesses were looted were not compensated.

“People do not understand the story of what is happening in SA, it is a mere jealousy, the fact that the government is providing everything they needed and the fact that the people working hard to survive are still making it better than them.

“This is the clue and the problem because everything they want is being provided by the government, if you want to start business you are given money and if you are sick you are given money to go to hospital and treat your self, everything is on their doorstep, Nigerians are not beneficiaries of this yet they are hustling and working hard and they are living well because Nigerians are known to be hardworking men and women who do not rely on anybody than God.

“When I said enough is enough of this madness they said I was trying to incite violence but the truth is Nigeria is supposed to take a critical look, tell their embassy over here if they cannot control these people they call unknown soldiers that are killing human beings, let the diplomatic relationship be strengthened it is not an issue of talking because there are lot of issues Nigerians can do and they know they can. ”

A little girl is trending online after she was caught on video removing cap of Pope Francis from his head.

Mountain Butorac tweeted a video Wednesday showing what happened when his goddaughter, Estella Westrick, 3, was lifted by a Vatican aide to receive a kiss from the pope following his Wednesday audience.

The video shows Pope Francis lean in for a kiss, giving the girl her opening to snatch his skullcap and hold it high in the air.

The pontiff appears to take the attempted theft in good humor and quickly gets his cap back.

“Took my goddaughter to meet the pope. She stole his hat!” Butorac tweeted.

“Right before she went up she was a little nervous,” Butorac told CNN. “Then she stole his hat. It was hilarious, everyone was laughing including the pope.”

He said the girl and her parents are currently visiting Rome from Atlanta.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have nabbed three siblings trading in beans on Adenekan Street, Alagbado, Lagos State for allegedly selling “poisonous beans” to members of the public.

The traders – Faith Ogbona, Chidioke Ogbona and Sunday Ogbona – were arrested by policemen from the Alagbado division after being alerted by a woman, who caught Chidioke applying Sniper, an insecticide, on the beans.

While Chidioke and Sunday were picked up on Friday, their elder brother, who owned the shop, was nabbed on Sunday, March 19 when he went to the station to secure their bail.

It was gathered that the shop had also been sealed off.

The police said 41-year-old Faith had wanted to influence his brothers’ release by allegedly offering the divisional police officer a N500,000 bribe, which the latter rejected.

The suspects, who hail from Ebonyi State, were paraded on Wednesday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja with some bags of the “poisonous beans” and some bottles of Snipers recovered from the shop.

According to multiple reports, veteran actress in the Nigerian movie industry, Mrs Veronica Njoku, otherwise known as Ramota in the defunct New Masquerade, is dead.

This was confirmed by a colleague of the actress, Tony Akposheri, who played the role of Zaccheus in the TV series that dominated the airwaves in the 80s and late 90s.

“Yes, it is true that Veronica Njoku is dead,” the veteran actor said on Wednesday morning when he was contacted on phone.

According to our findings, Mrs Veronica Njoku breathed her last on Tuesday, March 21 in Lagos.

The news of Ramota’s death was first announced by a media personality, Precious Eze, who took to his Facebook page to reveal this.

Babachir Lawal has informed the Senate he would not appear before its adhoc committee on the humanitarian crisis in the north-east on Thursday, March 23.

The senate invited the Secretary to the Federation over the controversial N270 million he allegedly approved in his capacity as Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on North East PINE, for the cutting of grasses in some IDP camps.

In a letter addressed to the chairman of the senate’s adhoc committee, Shehu Sani, Babachir says he will not be honoring the invitation because he has gone to court regarding the allegation.

“I wish to kindly request that you draw the attention of other members of the committee that I will not be able to appear before the committee primarily because I have gone to court to challenge the invitation among others,” he wrote.

Despite the terrorist attack in London yesterday, March 22, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the friendly match between the Super Eagles and Teranga Lions of Senegal slated for today at the Hive Stadium in London will hold.

A woman was killed on Westminster Bridge in central London in what police said was a terrorist incident.

A police officer was also stabbed in the nearby Houses of Parliament by an attacker, who was shot dead by police, while a number of other people were hurt – some with “catastrophic” injuries.

The attacker struck several pedestrians as he drove a car across the bridge, before crashing it into railings.

The news of the terrorist attack in London, coming on the eve of the much talked about international friendly match between the Super Eagles and their Senegalese counterparts sent panic waves to officials of the NFF yesterday.

However, the Secretary General of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said that there was nothing to worry about, adding that the attack took place far away from the Crowne Plaza Hotel camp of the Super Eagles.

“I have spoken to NFF officials, who are already with the team in London and they said the attack took place far away from the camp and the stadium where the match will take place. So, there is nothing to worry about,” Sanusi stated.

Senate Dino Melaye who is currently in the eye of the storm regarding the degree he got from the Deparment of Geography in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna yesterday, March 22 addressed the scandal and also expressed his annoyance at what he termed as an ‘insult’ on the National Assembly.

The insult he spoke of was in reference to the refusal of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) to appear before the senate in customs uniform to explain customs policy on import duty on cars.

Melaye criticised the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami’s letter to shelve Hameed Ali’s invitation pending the outcome of a court ruling on if it is a must he appears before the lawmakers in uniform or not.

Two members of the God’s Bible Church in Lagos State on Wednesday, March 22 dragged the 41-year old female Bishop of the church, Rev. Mrs Adline Ngozi before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for defrauding them of N2m.

The two women, Mrs Temitope Kadri and Dr. Mrs Ishaq Olanrewaju alleged the female clergy obtained the sum of N1 million each from them under the guise of investing in a five-year deposit scheme with an interest of N100, 000 every month.

They reportedly fell into the trap, agave her the money since last year and have been expecting the returns since.

But to their utmost shock, they realized that the whole investment was a scam.

However, when the victims asked for return of their money, the Imo State-born clergy reportedly threatened to place a curse on them to scare them from demanding for the money.

The victims consequently reported the matter to the police at Idimu division.

For failing to appoint a replacement forthe late Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, James Ocholi, six legal practitioners have dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to court.

The lawyers are: Felix Okolo, Femi Victor Motojesi, Samuel Ogala, Dickson Enema, David Adegbe and Titilope Akerejola.

In a suit filed at the Federal High Court, Lokoja with a number: FHC/LKJ/C/08/2017, the six lawyers described Buhari’s refusal to appoint a replacement for the late Ocholi as a breach of the constitution; and as such, prayed the court to declare that Buhari’s duty to appoint a Kogi state minister is mandatory.

They also prayed the court to order President Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami to, within 30 days of service, inclusive of the day of service to answer questions on the legal and constitutional effect of the president’s refusal to appoint a minister from Kogi state.

The matter has been fixed for hearing on Wednesday, May 3 at the Federal High Court in Kogi state.

Recall that James Ocholi (SAN) who hailed from Kogi State had a fatal car accident on his way to Abuja at about 40 kilometres away from Kaduna and died on the spot, alongside his wife and son.

Another prestigious institution, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has denied embattled Senator Dino Melaye obtained a degree for them.

SaharaReporters gathered that the LSE discredited the senator’s assertion that he possesses a degree from the UK university. The university stated that it had absolutely no evidence that the senator received any formal education at the reputable university. LSE, which is based in London, is one of the higher institutions of learning where Melaye claimed that he had earned one certificate or another.

A Senior Media Relations Officer at LSE, Candy Gibson stated, “We have checked our records and can find no evidence of Dino Melaye having any degree qualification from the London School of Economics and Political Science.”

Mr. Melaye, who runs no known form of business but flaunts his material possessions, especially such expensive automobiles as Bentley and Lamborghini, had claimed that he obtained seven degrees from several institutions, including Harvard and LSE. Under scrutiny, the senator’s academic claims have been exposed as bogus after a colleague of his, Senator Ali Ndume, urged the legislative body last Tuesday to probe Mr. Melaye’s educational records.

Recall the registrar’s office at Harvard University noted in a statement that while the Kogi Senator completed a week-long leadership seminar in November 2016, he did not graduate from the university.

Muhammad Sirajo Musa, a Nigerian man who got a penis transplant in Egypt has a new baby girl, Daily Trust reports.

Musa from Zaria during the Eid-el-Fitr of 2009 was on his way to the prayer ground and was involved in an accident in which his penis was severed.

He was first treated at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria before he was referred to an Egyptian hospital where a new penis was developed for him.

At the first surgery, the Egyptian doctors moulded the manhood by extracting muscles from Musa’s thigh and arm.

The manhood was planted beneath the position of the severed penis and was nursed for nine months before it was removed and planted in the original position.

Many residents of Zaria and other Nigerians doubted the possibility of Musa’s coming back to his normal sexual life with artificial manhood, but that doubt was cleared last week when Salamatu Maharazu, Musa’s wife, gave birth to a bouncing baby girl.

The excitement on Musa’s face was infectious when Daily Trust correspondent visited him at his family house in Anguwan Tukurwa inside the ancient walls of Zaria.

He said; “I give Allah all the glory. He was the one that saw me through the trauma of losing my manhood. As you can see, here is my 8-day-old baby. I have to also express my appreciation to the emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, because he was the one that sponsored my treatment. I also wish to thank Alhaji Isiyaka who also contributed greatly to my treatment. I named my daughter Amatul-azeez.”

Malama Salamatu said patience and believe in the powers of Allah were the factors that kept the family together during their trying time.

She added; “I am happy to say that my husband is back to life and this baby is the testimony. Praise is due to Allah.”

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu ha sounded a note of warning to politicians from Lagos saying none of them should contest  for 2019 governorship election in Lagos as there is no vacancy for that office.

The monarch said this while speaking at the 21st convocation ceremony of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo adding that any politician who refused to obey his directive would waste his or her money.

He said;

“Few days ago, one of the aspirants greeted me. After greeting, he alleged that I halted his ambition. No one should come out in 2019 and declare his ambition,” he said.

“The only way to avoid not wasting their money is to support Ambode and his deputy to rule Lagos for the next six years. That was why about nine months to the 2015 governorship election, I said Ambode would be the next governor whether they vote or not.

Tragedy struck in Makurdi, the Benue State capital when one of the bullets reportedly fired by soldiers attached to 707 Special Forces Brigade killed a secondary school pupil.

The pupil, Ayew Atume, was having a lunch in his parents’compound after returning from school on Tuesday, March 21 when the stray bullet hit him and reportedly died at the spot.

It was gathered that some members of a vigilance group in the community had intercepted a car conveying some suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The security guards were said to have found arms in the vehicle, which made them to detain the occupants.

A resident explained the herdsmen alerted soldiers in the Kashimbila area of the state, who raced to the scene and allegedly freed the men, shooting continuously. In the process, one of the bullets killed Atume.

The resident said, “Youths keeping vigilance on the town acted on a tip-off and intercepted a vehicle conveying some suspected herdsmen who were in possession of arms. The suspects called soldiers in Kashimbila who then called their colleagues stationed in Jato Aka to rescue the men.

“The soldiers arrived at the scene and whisked the car and the occupants to their base. The continued insistence of the youth for the vehicle to be handed over to the police angered the soldiers who started shooting indiscriminately into the air to frighten them.

“Ayew (Atume) was killed by a stray bullet. The boy just returned from school and was taking his lunch in his parents’ compound near the scene of the incident when the bullet hit him. He died instantly.”

Another resident said several other persons were injured in the commotion that followed the shootings as people scampered to safety.

The Senate yesterday rejected two out of the 47 non-career ambassadorial nominees sent for confirmation by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The two rejected are 82-year old Justice Sylvanus Nsofor from Imo State and 59-year old Daodu Igbekele Jacob from Ondo State. The Senate, however, confirmed 45 nominees.

The Senate has however given reasons why two nominees were rejected.

On the 82-year old Nsofor, the report said: “The nominee has served mostly in the academia and the legal profession, both here in Nigeria and abroad. Although he was calm at the screening, he looked frail and tired. His responses to the issues raised were either not answered or devoid of details and mostly satirical.

“The committee hereby rejects the nomination of Hon Justice S.A. Nsofor to the Senate for confirmation.”

On the second rejected nominee, the report said: “Although the nominee has acquired experience from his previous work places, his responses during the screening exercise did not have direct bearing to the issues raised and were not satisfactory to the committee’s expectation. Besides, there is an adverse report on the nominee’s suitability for appointment as ambassador.”

The committee therefore recommended for his rejection, which the Senate adopted.

Steven Udotong, a 16-year-old Nigerian High School Junior in Southern New Jersey has invented a nuclear energy fusor, making him the first black student to attain such feat.

A fusor is a device that uses an electric field to heat ions to suitable condition for nuclear fusion.

The machine generates an electric potential difference between two metal cages inside a vacuum.

Udotong expressed the hope that his invention would inspire a cleaner, more environmentally-friendly future for all.

To achieve the feat, Udotong created a GoFundMe page to raise 1,500 dollars for supplies, a goal he achieved in just one month.

He said “I grew curious after we flew by the topic of nuclear energy in my chemistry class last year. I decided to do more research and I soon learned that I could actually make a nuclear fusor.

“That sparked my interest. I want people to know that there are alternate methods for obtaining power and energy.

“I want to examine more clean energy products and stop the fear of the word “nuclear,” Steven shared in an interview on The Well, Jopwell’s Digital Magazine, with his older brother, Emmanuel, a computer science student at Princeton University.

“Nuclear energy is a lot safer than people think,” he added.

This past summer, Steven was one of the three students from New Jersey to be accepted into the Yale Young Global Scholar Program, which allowed him to pursue the engineering workshop at the Singapore campus.

He said that he realised he could be the first black student to build a nuclear reactor.

“I was motivated because I knew that there were many other ways for minorities to pursue success. Sports and music were not the only avenues for us.

“There’s room for us. There’s a need for us to participate in academia, business, art, law, medicine, and yes, nuclear energy.

“I hope this project will become an example of academic excellence as vehicle of accomplishment for black students.”
