President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to reciprocate the mercy of God upon his life by releasing former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki and the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu from prison custody.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele, Fayose disclosed this on Monday, March 13 in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi.

Fayose admonished Buhari to reciprocate the mercy of God upon his life by also showering mercy on his fellow citizens.

He said: “You have received the mercy and favour of God. You have come back from medical vacation alive. By what people had said and by your own account, it is the mercy and favour of God that have seen you through as well as the prayers of everyone.

“It is incumbent on you to now also show mercy. I advise you to show mercy to Nnamdi Kanu and Sambo Dasuki and such other Nigerians that are suffering unjust, punitive, illegal, and unconstitutional incarceration under your directive or administration.

“Allow all those who have been granted bail by the court to enjoy their bail while their trial continues. This is the right, just, and merciful thing to do. To continue to disdain the court is reckless and unconstitutional. Moreover, it is a sin and it is oppressive.”

Etisalat

There is a possibility that the Abu Dhabi telecoms group Etisalat may sell its stake in Etisalat Nigeria due to the $1.2 billion loan the telecoms firm has incurred but want the firm’s debt restructured before doing so.

The decision is coming after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Communication’s Commission (NCC) on Friday agreed with the 13 creditor banks to pursue a default deal rather than a receivership for the mobile operator so as not to deter investors and to avoid a wider debt crisis.

Etisalat is due to meet with creditors in Nigeria between today and tomorrow to discuss the default, a source told Reuters.

It was not clear whether the major stakeholder, which has a 45 per cent holding in Etisalat Nigeria after converting a loan to equity in February, would divest completely or retain some stakes.

Ahmed Bin Ali, Senior Vice President of Etisalat, declined to comment, while Etisalat Nigeria could not be reached. “It is at an early stage,” one source said of the sale.

Last week, a banking source said that the Nigerian affiliate of Etisalat had given notice to its local lenders that it would miss a payment in February but the two sides are yet to agree terms.

Etisalat Nigeria signed a $1.2 billion medium-term facility with 13 Nigerian banks in 2013, which it used to refinance an existing $650 million loan and modernise its network.

But an economic downturn, a currency devaluation and dollar shortages on Nigeria’s interbank market led to it missing payment, Ibrahim Dikko, Vice President for Regulatory Affairs at Etisalat Nigeria, has said.

Banks involved in the loan include Zenith Bank, GTBank, First Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, Ecobank, FCMB, Stanbic IBTC Bank and Union Bank.

Abu Dhabi state investment fund, Mubadala, which has a 40 per cent stake in Etisalat Nigeria, wants a solution found, another source said. Mubadala declined to comment.

Like several other foreign firms that invested in Nigeria, Etisalat has been hit hardest by dollar shortages in Nigeria. is struggling to repay loans or keep operating as the slump in oil revenues continues to hit currency and dollar reserves.

Etisalat’s Chief Strategy Officer, Khalifa Hassan al-Forah al-Shamsi, told Reuters that the company is making sure that in markets where there are currency fluctuations, operating costs are in local currency.

Etisalat Nigeria has 20 million subscribers, according to Nigeria’s telecom regulator, making it the country’s number four mobile operator with a 14 per cent market share.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged by Archbishop Nicholas Okoh to find ways to stop the killings of Nigerians across the country.

Okoh who is the Primate of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion said it was the duty of the Federal Government to protect the lives and property of Nigerians in any part of the country.

He decried what he called the senseless killings of Nigerians by arms-bearing Fulani herdsmen.

The Anglican Primate spoke at Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State during the dedication of Basilica of St. James the Great Cathedral by the Ogbaru Diocese.

He said it was not only in Southern Kaduna that people were being massacred, stressing that “everywhere in the country, Nigerians are being killed every now and then.”

He urged the Federal Government to provide adequate security for Nigerians in every part of the country.

Okoh enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the full recovery of President Buhari, to enable him to offer Nigeria the desired leadership for which he was elected.

The primate also called for economic measures to cushion the effects of the economic downturn in the country.

The Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) has written another letter to the Senate begging them to schedule his invitation to the upper chamber to another day.

In the letter signed personally by the Col. Hameed Ali and dated March 14, 2017, the C-G explained that he was currently bereaved and could not appear at the time.

On the issue of wearing Uniforms, he urged the Senate to give him time as he was seeking legal advise on the matter to avoid running foul of the laws of the land.

The letter reads in part: “Regarding the wearing of uniform, I wish to advise that the Senate avails itself of the legal basis of its decision to compel me to wear uniform.

“I am similarly seeking legal advise on this issue so that both the Senate and I will operate within the proper legal framework.

“I regret my inability to answer the Senate invitation owing to a recent bereavement. I will however, make myself available whenever i am needed in future,” he wrote.

The C-G had written to the Senate earlier stating that he could not honour the invitation as the date clashed with the official monthly management meeting of the NCS.

The Senate however rejected the letter and insisted that the NSC boss must appear before the Senate on March 15 and in appropriate uniform of the service.

Meanwhile. a source in the office of the President of the Senate however told NAN that the Senate has also rejected the recent letter and insisted that the Col. must appear before the legislative Chamber on Wednesday.

‘El-Rufai Is Behind The Sex Allegations Against Me’– Apostle Suleman Reveals

Apostle Suleman, El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has been accused by the Omega Fire Ministries of masterminding the recent series of spurious allegations of infidelity against its President and Founder, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

Apostle Suleman made the claim through a statement by his communications manager, Phrank Shaibu on Tuesday, March 14 that facts and available intelligence incontrovertibly pointed to the Kaduna Governor as the mastermind of the allegations.

According to him, El-Rufai decided to sponsor the allegations as a strategy to silence Apostle Suleiman and to take revenge for the latter’s famed audacity of standing against the persecution and killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna.

“It is clear that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is the mastermind of these allegations. The masquerade has been unveiled and is now dancing naked in the market Square. We don’t need to look any further for the source of the smoke,” he stated.

Shaibu contended that apart from the initial suspicion by the church that the Kaduna Governor may be behind the evil plot, the latest so-called revelation by one Queen Esther, a supposed usher of the Omega Fire Ministries finally uncovered the lid as to who was sponsoring the myriad of allegations against the General Overseer.

“When Festus Keyamo in his first letter to our pastor made allusion to fulani herdsmen, we dismissed it as a coincidence. Then intelligence revealed that some persons are lodged in a hotel being trained on how to clone Apostle’s voice and crop videos.

“The first question that crossed our mind was who was paying the bills, especially the huge media blitz that has trailed the spurious allegations. We did not have to wait for long before El-Rufai exposed himself. Indeed, he could not wait for long before coming out of the closet”, he revealed.

The spokesman wondered why the said Queen Esther, who allegedly pleaded for the media not to reveal her real identity should give as condition that the Kaduna State Government must guarantee her safety if the governor had no hand in the plot.

“Why is the said Queen Esther asking for protection from the Kaduna State government. Is the government now the police or the Department of State Services (DSS)? Why did she not mention any other state? Is it not obvious that she is telling us what her sponsors are willing for Nigerians to know?” he asked.

Shaibu argued that it was more than a coincidence that these allegations are coming up no soon after the Senior Pastor had an altercation with the same Kaduna State Government over the persecution and killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna.

He therefore urged the security agencies, particularly the DSS to investigate El-Rufai’s involvement in the unfolding saga, particularly the possibility that he may be harbouring a private militia.

“Since the governor does not control the police or DSS, the likelihood is that the governor has a private militia. It is also possible that the so called fulani herdsmen on rampage in Southern Kaduna are part of his army. That is why El-Rufai was unsettled by the pastor’s stand against them,” he declared.

Customs Boss Makes U-Turn, To Appear Before Senate Today

The Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) has droped his earlier plan not to appear before the senate

PUNCH gathered through a reliable source close to the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday, March 14 that Ali was advised to honour the Senate invitation in order to avert a clash between the Legislature and the Executive.

Ali had told the Senate, in a letter, that he would not appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday (today) as his summons to the chamber coincided with the routine management meeting of the NCS.

The Customs boss requested the upper chamber of the National Assembly to fix another date for his appearance.

Ali’s letter, which was signed by an Assistant Comptroller General, Azarema Abdulkadir, was read to lawmakers at the plenary on Tuesday.

The Senate had, on Thursday, asked the Customs boss to appear before it “unfailingly” on Wednesday, stating that Ali would not be admitted into the chamber if he failed to appear in the uniform of the service showing his rank as the DG.

A source added that the Customs boss was advised by the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senate, Ita Enang, to meet with Senate President Bukola Saraki ahead of his appearance before the Senate on Wednesday (today).

On Tuesday evening, Ali arrived at the National Assembly complex at 5.30pm.

He first had a short meeting with the Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, before moving to Saraki’s office, where they had a closed-door meeting.

Security operatives shielded the Customs boss from journalists when he was approached for comments after the meeting.

He left the National Assembly at 6.45pm.

The letter was dated March 14, 2017, and was delivered to Saraki after the plenary.

According to the source, the Customs DG disregarded his first letter to the Senate, in which he informed the Senate of his intention not to appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday.

“He wrote a second letter after the Presidency’s intervention.

‘‘There are more chances now that he will answer the Senate’s summons tomorrow. People are now seeking soft landing for him,” the source said.

Unlike the first letter which was signed by an Assistant Comptroller General, Ali personally signed the second letter.

As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continue with the probe of the N388.304billion paris loan refun, a state governor has returned N500million found in his account.

The EFCC is probing how N19billion was illegally deducted from the London-Paris Club loan refund and how the money was shared.

The Nation reported that four persons are helping the anti-graft agency on its investigation.

The diverted money was said to be a consultant fee, but part of it found its way into the yet unnamed governor’s account.

Seven governors allegedly played key roles in diverting part of the N388.304billion refund into two accounts opened by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

“In spite of the protestation of some governors, the EFCC has decided to conclude the ongoing probe of the N19billion diverted from the loan refund.

“Detectives have grilled four more suspects and retrieved bank details on how funds were wired into some accounts.

“EFCC operatives traced about N500million, which was meant for a consultant, to the account of a governor. The cash has since been paid back after the discovery.

“The operatives are trying to determine whether or not the governor is also one of the consultants engaged for advisory service by the NGF.

“The details of how the refunds were diverted will soon be made public, especially those involved,” the source said.

Responding to a question, the source added: “The President is expected to get a status report from EFCC on the investigation.

The Federal Government released N388.304billion of the N522.74 billion refund to 35 states as over-deductions on the London-Paris Club loans.

States on top of the list with huge reimbursements are those controlled by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contrary to their claims of being oppressed by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The big earners are Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Katsina, Kaduna, Lagos, Imo, Jigawa, Borno, Niger, Bauchi and Benue.

Only Kano State and the FCT did not benefit from the reimbursement.

The Suspects

Lagos Police Command on Tuesday, March 14 paraded three women who were members of a syndicate allegedly involved in abducting children from Lagos and selling them in Anambra State.

The three women, a 50-year-old grandmother, Rita Eze, Ogochi Nwekei, Gladys Augustine were paraded at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja and the fourth suspect, Elizabeth, who was said to be ill, was not paraded.

PUNCH had reported that Augustine, who claimed to be Mary John, connived with one Samuel, who is at large, to abduct three-year-old Oluwasemilore Adebiyi, from her parents’ residence in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

To hatch the plan, 28-year-old Augustine enrolled for beads-making apprenticeship at Oluwasemilore’s mother’s shop in January, giving her name as Mary John. She fled to Anambra with the girl seven days after.

The girl was handed over to Eze, who confessed to selling her to Elizabeth through Nwekei, for N500,000. Oluwasemilore was, however, recovered by the police after Augustine was arrested in the Badagry area of Lagos on February 23.

It was further learned that some parents from different parts of the state had stormed the command and identified Augustine as the abductor of their children, saying the suspect adopted the same gimmick with which Oluwasemilore was abducted.

The victims included four-year-old Farouk and his sister, Kafayat, 6, who were allegedly abducted in the Okokomaiko area in November 2016. The children had yet to be found.

But Augustine denied abducting the kids, saying, Oluwasemilore was her first abduction. She said Samuel had lied to her that he and Oluwasemilore’s mother, Tobiloba Adebiyi, gave birth to the girl, but she (Tobiloba) denied him access to the girl.

The Cross River State indigene stated that Samuel introduced Eze to her as his mother and promised her N50,000 if the plan worked out.

She said, “I came to Lagos in 2010 and I worked as a housemaid. I used the money I got to open a shop. Eventually, I was sent away from the shop and I needed money to start another business. I met Samuel at Mowo bus stop in Badagry in January.

“He said he impregnated a woman and the woman (Tobiloba) left him to marry another man. He said he wanted to get back the child, but the woman refused. He asked me to work for the woman in order to snatch the child and he promised to give me N50,000. On the day I snatched the girl, I took her to a bus stop and bought her a snack.

“When I took the girl to Samuel, he said I should take her to his mother, Mrs. Eze, in Anambra. He said he would tell the girl’s mother that he was the one who took her. I later returned to Lagos, thinking he had told the woman. I was surprised when the police arrested me.”

The grandmother, Eze, said she took N40,000 from the proceed, gave Augustine N60,000 and sent the remaining sum to Samuel. She added that she used the money to pay the rent on her apartment.

She said, “I met Michael in December 2016 at a party in Awka through a secondary school friend, who is an aunt to him. He told me that he impregnated a woman in Lagos and that he would send the child to me to help take care of her. When Gladys (Augustine) brought the girl, Samuel told me to sell her for N500,000.

“I informed Ogochi (Nwekei) and she said one of her friends, Elizabeth, wanted to buy a child. Elizabeth paid N500,000. Samuel told me to give Augustine N50,000 and another N10,000 for her transport back to Lagos, while I got N40,000. I sent the remaining N400,000 to Samuel. I used the money to pay my house rent. I have five children and grandchildren.”

Buhari To Give N-Power Graduates Additional N4,500 Monthly For This Reason

N-Power

An additional N4500 monthly payment has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari to all the 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries for the purpose of purchasing a computer tablet or i-Pad.

The payment for the device would be stretched for 20 months, with the subsidy by government covering the repayment in some months.

Bank of Industry, BoI is financing the acquisition of the tablets.

According the Mr. Laolu Akande, the SSA media in the Vice President’s office, each N-Power graduate, after being verified would select his choice of device amongst nine different BOI pre-approved vendors.

Below is the full statement:

AT the last count 149, 669 Nigerian graduates of the 200,000 engaged by the Federal Government under the N-Power Volunteer Corps are now collecting their monthly stipends of N30,000 monthly having been physically verified and deployed across the 36 states and FCT.

According to Mr. Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity to the President, Office of the Vice President made this disclosure while giving an update today on the Social Investment Programmes of the Buhari administration.

Besides, Akande added that the Federal Government has also approved an additional N4500/monthly to all the 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries to purchase an electronic device which would be loaded with different applications that would further enhance the skills of the beneficiaries and afford them additional training opportunities during the two-year duration of the job program.

This device grant is in conjunction with the Bank of Industry (BoI) who has extended an asset finance of 20 months to each of the 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries.

While each of the beneficiaries after being verified would select their choice of device amongst nine different BOI pre-approved vendors, the price ranges from N3,000 to N6,700 monthly deductions for the next 20months.

Therefore in some cases the N4500 device grant would cover the full monthly deduction cost while in other cases the graduate authorizes BOI to deduct the additional differential cost from their monthly stipends depending on the device chosen.

The Vice President’s Spokesman also noted that 6 of the 9 BOI pre-approved vendors are indigenous local brands in pursuit of the Buhari administration’s push for Local Content.

He said almost 100,000 graduate N-Power beneficiaries have completed their orders for the devices as at press time, adding that the Bank of Industry is in charge of effecting the orders made. The plan is to conduct the order of the devices in two batches of 100,000 each, one after the other.

It was further disclosed that all the 149,669 N-Power beneficiaries now collecting their stipends have been physically verified and deployed, while their given bank account information have also been matched with the Bank Verification Number.

The SSA said that, in December, about 112,475 of the N-Power graduate beneficiaries received the N30,000 monthly stipends, and the number came close to 150,000, both in January and February meaning about that number are now receiving their up-to-date stipends from the N-Power Volunteer Corps.

Akande also noted that now beneficiaries across the 36 States of the Federation, and the FCT have been verified, totaling the 150,000 figure. He said the balance 50,000 of the 200,000 beneficiaries engaged by the FG are those who so far could not be paid for various reasons.

This includes those who were disqualified during verification on the basis of age-over 35, and inadequate academic qualification. The N-Power is for university, polytechnics and College of Education graduates only. There were also some of the selected 200,000 who were ‘no shows’ meaning they simply did not report for verification at all.

Others who could not be paid were those whose personal information details were faulty, including those whose marital status have changed. There are also those who used different names and differing personal information. And lastly there are also those whose banking information simply do not match with their BVN banking records.
In the case of those whose marital status have changed, Akande explained that their information is now being updated through the various States and FCT Focal Persons and then they would be represented for payment. He also disclosed that those who have sought redeployment to other states are among the 50,000 and in such cases, they will be considered alongside those to be replaced from the N-Power waiting list where necessary.

The process for the replacement of those who did not show up and those disqualified would also resume shortly to bring the number back to 200,000 for the first batch of the 500,000 promised by the Buhari administration.

Mr. George Turnah

Mr.George Turnah, a godson to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly stealing N2bn from the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The EFCC said it traced deposits of N2bn paid into his bank accounts.

According to the commission, the suspect, who is also a former Special Adviser to Mr. Dan Abia, the erstwhile Managing Director of the NDDC, was arrested by the Port Harcourt office of the commission.

The anti-graft agency said it had searched Turnah’s houses in Yenagoa and Port Harcourt and found some incriminating documents.

The EFCC said, “He was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in connection with alleged possession of funds running into N2bn, suspected to be funds siphoned from the NDDC while serving there as an adviser. Turnah, widely believed to be a godson of former President Goodluck Jonathan, served in the NDDC between 2012 and 2015.

“Preliminary investigations by the EFCC threw up deposits made in his personal and company bank accounts in excess of N2bn. A search conducted in his houses in Port Harcourt and Yenogoa, yielded useful documents.

“Turnah has made useful statements to the EFCC and will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.”

Turnah is not the only relative of the former President that is under investigation by the EFCC.

Col. Hameed Ali

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has suspended the implementation of its policy for duty payments on old vehicles, in order to resolve issues with the Senate Committee on Customs.

The suspension was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday, March 15 by NCS acting spokesman, Joseph Attah.

He said the suspension of the action was to allow for discussions with the senate committee on customs and excise duty.

“Following the unnecessary tension generated as a result of misconception and misrepresentation of the Nigeria Customs Service planned motor duty payment, the leadership of the national assembly and the comptroller-general of customs, Col Hameed Ali (Rtd) met with a view to resolving the impasse,” he said.

“They both agreed that the proposed motor duty payment, though in line with the provision of Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) Cap C.45, LFN 2004 should be put on hold while the Senate Committee on Customs & Excise interfaces with the NCS for further discussions.

“While payment of duty on vehicles or indeed any dutiable imported item remains a civic responsibility of every patriotic Nigerian, NCS Management has directed that the exercise be put on hold while expressing readiness to engage the senate Committee on further discussions to bring them on board to understand the importance of the exercise to national security and economy.”

Hameed Ali, the customs comptroller-general, is scheduled to appear before the senate over this matter on Wednesday.
