Former Super Eagles chief coach Austin Eguavoen has predicted that Nigeria will not only qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but reach the quarter-finals.
According to Eguavoen, the Super Eagles after winning the Africa Cup of Nations cannot afford not to be at the World Cup especially after experiencing what it means to play at that level with their participations at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
He said the Super Eagles would fly past Malawi and set the stage for the final qualifying game, adding that all the noise by coach Saintfiet was that of an angry man who is desperate to spoil things for Nigeria for denying him a job.
”Malawi will fall no matter how much they try and Eagles would then go ahead to face one of the unseeded nine other qualifiers for the final phase. Eagles would surely be in Brazil next year.”
”I am confident that the Eagles would be in Brazil but they cannot win the World Cup. The Eagles should at least get to the quarter-finals in Brazil. To get there, they must play a lot of friendly matches against European and Asian countries in their build-up,” he stressed.
Eguavoen also spoke on the Code of Conduct being proposed for the Super Eagles, noting that it all bothers on discipline of the entire team.
The former Super Eagles defender expressed dismay that the issue has generated so much which led to the government setting up a committee to formulate a Code of Conduct for the team.
