Liberian authorities have revealed that Eric Duncan, the Liberian man diagnosed with Ebola in the US, will be prosecuted once he recovers after being treated in America and is brought back into the country.
Liberia Airports Authority chairman Beyan Kesselee told reporters on Thursday that Thomas Eric Duncan will face prosecution for risking the lives of others and violating emergency health regulations. She said,”We wish him a speedy recovery; we await his arrival in Liberia to face prosecution.”
Kesselee suggested that Duncan did not display any symptoms of the Ebola disease when he left Liberia to the United States.
Investigations by the health ministry before departing, Duncan had helped take a pregnant woman who was seriously sick to a nearby health center for treatment on a wheelbarrow but was turned back from the hospital after being told they lacked bed space to cater for the woman. The pregnant woman later gave up the ghost and was buried.
Health authorities in Liberia speculated that Duncan may have contracted the virus from the late woman.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Tuesday that a Liberian patient at a hospital in Dallas, Texas, was diagnosed with the Ebola virus and was in critical condition. He is the first person to be diagnosed of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease on American soil.
