There seems to be a high possibility that leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, has been killed.

A source at the Defence Headquarters, on Sunday, revealed that Shekau is among the militants killed by the troops in Konduga, Borno.

In the last few days, there have been several attempts by terrorists to gain entry into Konduga, which the Nigerian troops, have continued to foil.

The intention of that desperate attempt, was for the terrorists to recover the bodies of their prominent fighters, such as Abubakar Shekau and others, who had been killed in previous encounters in Konduga.

In the meantime, the Nigerian troops have begun mopping up operations in the area.

Many members of the Boko Haram are said to be fleeing into Cameroon for safety.

According to a military source, “it is getting more certain that the terrorist’s commander, who has been mimicking Shekau in previous videos, is the one killed at Konduga, on September 17th, as massive relocation of terrorists to seek safe haven in independent locations in Cameroon has been noticed.”

Also,The Defence authorities have said that five members of the Boko Haram sect have surrendered to the troops at Konduga.

The Defence Headquarters said in a tweet on its twitter handle on Sunday that the five insurgents surrendered to the military with all their weapons and pleaded for mercy.

It was also stated in another tweet that other terrorists in custody of the military were volunteering useful information on the activities of the group signifying their readiness to cooperate with the security forces.

“As the heat on terrorists continues, five terrorists yesterday (on Saturday) surrendered with all their weapons to troops at Konduga pleading for mercy.

“Other captured terrorists have been giving useful information on the subsequent plans of the group in an apparent offer to cooperate,” the tweets read.

The troops were said to have recovered large cache of arms and ammunition from the insurgents during the battles against the insurgents at Konduga between Maiduguri and Bama.
