The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, says this was according to the latest Webometric ranking of world universities.
According to Webometric in the latest 2014 University Web Ranking conducted by International Colleges and Universities just released, Unilorin is also now ranked 20th in Africa.
In the 2013 ranking, Webometric ranked the Obafemi Awolowo University best in Nigeria and 8th in Africa.
In the same year, University of Ilorin ranked fifth in Nigeria and 56th in Africa, showing that efforts to transform the institution have yielded positive fruits.
The second best University in the country is the University of Lagos, which also now ranked 21st in Africa while Obafemi Awolowo is third, taking 26th position in Africa.
Also on the list are: the University of Ibadan, 4th in Nigeria and 38th in Africa; the Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, 5th in Nigeria and 59th in Africa; Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, 6th in Nigeria and 63rd in Africa.
Others are the Federal University, Minna, 7th in Nigeria and 71st in Africa; the University of Benin, 8th in Nigeria and 82nd in Africa; the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, 9th in Nigeria and 87th in Africa and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, 10th in Nigeria and 89th in Africa.
