Nine Nigerian students (names withheld) have been reportedly kidnapped in the city of Lugansk, Ukraine.
This was made known in a statement released by Andrey Lysenko, Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Information Centre.
Lysenko stated that the abducted students were being held in a seized building of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine).
He disclosed that negotiations have been underway to release the nine students allegedly taken captive by separatists in the eastern city of Luhansk, who, in the course of seeking greater autonomy, have been waging a bloody battle in eastern Ukraine against the government.
It further said that relatives of the kidnapped students had been making efforts to address a press conference at the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine.
Lysenko told a news conference that people with experience were conducting negotiations and contact with “the terrorists,” with the hope that the talks would end “successfully in the near future.”
The Federal Government is yet to make a statement concerning the 9 abducted students.
