President Goodluck Jonathan welcomed the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, at the State House in FCT Abuja on June 4, 2014, Wednesday, for a closed-door meeting, expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome current difficulties.
During the post-meeting interview with the House journalists the archbishop revealed that the president assured him of taking multidimensional approach to resolve the challenges of the country.
Welby expressed his profound respect and deep love for Nigeria, described Nigerians as joyful, hopeful, vigorous and hardworking. Due to this fact, it was especially painful for him to learn about horrible events in the country.
The archbishop condemned terrorist activities, revealed that he arrived in Abuja to condole and to pray with President Jonathan.
“God is faithful. In one of the letters that Paul wrote to the church, he talked about the sufferings they were going through being known throughout the world.
“That is exactly the truth here because the suffering in Nigeria is known throughout the world and people throughout the world pray for the country,’’ he said.
In conclusion he emphasized on huge potential of Nigeria and its people.
