The embattled lawmakers, who are answering to a seven-count criminal charge that was entered against them by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, in their consolidated application, begged the court to terminate their trial.

The duo contended that the anti-graft agency failed to adduce any credible evidence to warrant their prosecution.

ICPC had alleged that they demanded and collected bribe from the Chairman of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, Femi Otedola, as an inducement to remove the name of his company from the report of the House of Reps’ Ad-hoc committee on Monitoring of fuel subsidy regime.

However, the accused persons had on February 1, pleaded not guilty to the charge and subsequently spent seven days at Kuje Prison where the court remanded them till their bail application was granted.

Meanwhile, the case could not hold yesterday as planned owing to the absence of the trial Judge who is bereaved.
