Nigerian scientist,Prof Adebowale wins Kwame Nkrumah prize for science innovation

A Nigerian scientist, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, has won the 2014 AU Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Prize in the field of basic science, technology and innovation.

Adebowale, a professor of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Ibadan was conferred with the award during the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU holding in Addis Ababa.

He won the award alongside Prof. Andre Bationo of Burkina Faso, who won in the field of earth and life sciences. The continental scientific award, established by the African Union Commission in 2008, is valued at $100,000 for each scientific sector.

Supervising Minister, Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, expressed delight at the feat achieved by the Nigerian scientist.

“It is a plus for the transformation agenda in education and good motivation for Nigerians to excel internationally.” She said.

“This award will help to build confidence in the Nigerian nation and for me as a scientist, I am very excited that a colleague of mine received this award.” She added.
